Habitat: Native to Australia, Eucalyptus trees comprise around 90% of the country's forests. Perhaps the most attractive of all eucalyptus trees, Eucalyptus globulus is a fast-growing evergreen native to South-Eastern Australia and Tasmania. Among the tallest trees in the world it can reach truly gigantic heights in the wild, with some specimens reportedly exceeding 300 feet. Under favorable conditions this species can achieve 50 feet in only five to six years and enjoys a long life.
Aroma: Eucalyptus oil has a fresh, woody, clean, and refreshing smell. It has a stimulating action on the mind, aiding concentration.
Affinities: It is an excellent respiratory oil when vaporized; it helps with coughs, asthma, and throat and sinus ailments. It calms inflammation and eases mucus, clearing the head from the congestion of colds, flus, and hay fever. Eucalyptus oil has a cooling and deodorizing effect on the body, helping with fevers and migraines. This oil can help speed up the healing of slow healing wounds and ulcers, calm skin eruptions and clear congested skin.
Folklore: Used by the Aborigines to heal wounds, it is a tree that has been used to transform swampy environments filled with malaria into habitable neighborhoods. It is also the main food for the Koala Bear.
Words of wisdom: Eucalyptus oil should be used with care and excessive use of this oil may cause headaches. Do not take any oils internally and do not apply undiluted essential oils or other concentrated essences onto the skin without advanced essential oil knowledge or consultation from a qualified aromatherapy practitioner. Use caution when using oils with children and pets. Consult a qualified aromatherapy practitioner before using oils with children, the elderly, during pregnancy, or if you have medical issues or are taking medications.
